In this article we take a deeper look at how the Alpha and Omega enigma is encoded into the Major Arcana and what it means in our daily lives.
Alpha and Omega are the first (A) and the last (Ω) letters of the Greek alphabet. In this sense, they refer to the beginning and to the end of a cycle. In Tarot terms, they directly refer to the pairing of first and the last Arcanas: THE FOOL and THE WORLD.
So, what does this reveal?
Well, this is where it gets rather interesting. One significant Biblical passage revealing the possible nature of the A and Ω is to be found in Revelations, Chapter 21, verse 6, where it states:
It seems that our friend, the A and Ω, has the power of giving life. In fact, the A and Ω could be life itself.'
The Sign of the Cross
There is an interesting element to the Alpha and Omega that further confirms the idea that it, in some way, refers to the sense of the universe as an abundance and infinite resource. When you place the Ω on top of the A, the result is the Ankh shape …. and the Ankh, as you may already know, was used by the Ancient Egyptians to represent ‘life’ itself.
The Ankh is also the glyph used by astrologers to represent the planet Venus and its Major Arcana association is to THE EMPRESS. The Rider-Waite deck shows the symbol on the Empress's shield.
I have long believed that there is some long-lost element to the Major Arcana of the Tarot that reveals a secret initiation process (possibly Egyptian in origin) to the unveiling of the mysteries of the Law of Attraction and the Law of Manifestation.
Could this enigma regarding the Alpha and Omega operate as a key to unlocking this mystery?
